issit: In Situ Sound Installation Toolkit

keine Ahnung von Schwerkraft  – Oblivious to Gravity has been realized with the sound installation toolkit issit (In Situ Sound Installation Toolkit). It was developed together with the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

The technical instruments allow creating and fine-tuning sound installations in situ. issit offers the possibility to capture and create interactivity between sound and space especially to those installations working with a specific physical and spatial situation. It allows for playing and improvising with the sound and the space as well as for documenting the working process and capturing (i.e. recording) site-specific phenomena. The result is a mobile and agile listening experience, especially shaped by the peculiarities of the specific space and its situation.

issit is made of carefully selected hardware and specifically developed software components:

The hardware consists of 32 active speakers and flight cases, D/A converters, an MADI interface, a laptop computer and all the cables, stands and fixtures needed to easily disperse the speakers in any architectural or natural setting.

The software toolbox for building-sound compositions is based on SuperCollider and is also using Reaper as a DAW. It provides versatile modules for sound file playback, sound synthesis and processing, signal routing and spatialization as well as recording and documentation.
